Mary’s daughter, Kathleen, had only three garments that she wanted made into a small memorial wall-hanging. Mary loved the sea and the beach and had silk skirt suit made out of a large fish print. Kathleen was a bit worried how the fish print would translate into a quilt with only two other garments – a black silk floral print and a wildly colorful 60’s floral print. The great thing about making a quilt out of small squares is that any large scale print gets cropped significantly. What worked out particularly well is that even with only three fabrics, we had a light, and dark, and a multi-colored palette: perfect materials for a dynamic, geometric quilt design.
