I have been collecting notecards ever since I can remember. I have shoeboxes full. I was going through them the other day and realized that over half of them contained renderings of animals – hand calligraphy, paper cutouts, etchings, watercolors, and more. Designing a New Collection
The sun is out here in Portland, and Spring is in full swing. The designs for my next fabric collection are due into Andover Fabrics in the upcoming week, and I’m excited to see this group of ideas come to fruition. The concept for this line took root a year and a half ago when I traveled to rural North Carolina to visit an old friend on her farm. Read more >
Herringbone Pattern Appreciation
The versatility of the classic herringbone motif is evident in the many different ways current designers and craftspeople have incorporated it in their work. Originally designed as a V-shaped weaving pattern, it has been reinterpreted across numerous forms.
“Constructs” Exhibit
I just took in a great show at the Disjecta Gallery, here in Portland, Oregon. The show is called “Constructs” and features the work of talented artists, Laura Vandenburgh, Nathan Green, and Pablo Rasgado. I found their use and appreciation of pattern and texture quite inspiring. Vandenburgh creates large, net-like structures out of cut paper that reminded me of contours on maps.
