The sun is out here in Portland, and Spring is in full swing. The designs for my next fabric collection are due into Andover Fabrics in the upcoming week, and I’m excited to see this group of ideas come to fruition. The concept for this line took root a year and a half ago when I traveled to rural North Carolina to visit an old friend on her farm. She was in the middle of cooking down a big batch of sorghum syrup when I arrived.
Her friends had posted up in the barn and were picking old time fiddle tunes while a new batch of kittens pounced on anything that moved in between naps. It was a beautiful scene.
Every corner of her farm displayed a potential photo opportunity, so I started shooting. The following photos became the core inspiration for the collection currently on my table. “Homestead” feels like the right title for this one – we’ll see if it sticks.
